Dr.Suresh Venkatachalam, Chief Doctor and Sr.Oncologist of SLV Hospital and Cancer Centre, Nanjundapuram, Coimbatore who was one of the persons to go on a pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar, is among the nearly 300 pilgrims who are unreachable after the devastating flash flood in Nepal and Tibet.
The deadly incident has left nearly 300 to 400 Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims out of contact or missing, including groups from the Isha Foundation. Around 384 travelers and pilgrims are uncontactable or missing near the border areas (such as Rasuwagadhi and Gyirong) following sudden floods along the Bhote Koshi River.
Indian Spiritual leader Sadhguru confirmed that at least 77 people from an Isha Foundation pilgrimage group were near an immigration center when the floods hit. Hundreds of others remain stranded across parts of Tibet and Nepal.
Dr.Suresh Venkatachalam (63) went along with his wife, Thangalakshmi Jothiramalingam (57), and both are presumed missing. The same was confirmed by the hospital staff.
They both were inside the Gyirong Port Immigration Building (China side) on 26 August 2026 at approximately 10:18 AM local time — approximately 12 minutes before the catastrophic flash flood struck at ~10:30 AM. They are missing and the last contact was from inside the Chinese immigration building as they were attempting to exit China and enter Nepal.
