Coimbatore MP Ganapathy Rajkumar has urged the Salem Division of Southern Railway to introduce stoppages for several important trains at Coimbatore North Railway Station and undertake infrastructure and passenger amenity improvements at Coimbatore North, Peelamedu and Singanallur railway stations.

In a letter to the Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Division, the MP said the demands were aimed at improving railway connectivity and passenger convenience and decongesting Coimbatore Railway Junction.

He sought stoppages at Coimbatore North for the Nilagiri Express (12672), Cheran Express (12674), Madras Intercity Express (12680), Tirupati Express (22616), Jan Shatabdi Express (12084), Kovai Express (12676), Nagercoil Express (22668) and Jan Shatabdi Express (12083). According to the MP, providing stoppages for these trains at Coimbatore North would benefit residents of the northern parts of Coimbatore and neighboring areas and improve access to railway services.

He also requested that the goods shed currently located at Coimbatore North be shifted to Irugur. The move, he said, would enable better utilisation of railway infrastructure at Coimbatore North and facilitate passenger train operations. Another demand was the opening of the second entry at Coimbatore North Railway Station at the earliest to improve accessibility and reduce congestion at the existing entrance.

Ganapathy Rajkumar also sought the development of Peelamedu Railway Station with improved basic and passenger amenities. At Singanallur Railway Station, he called for comprehensive infrastructure development, including raising the platform height as per railway standards, providing adequate toilet facilities and improving other essential passenger amenities.

He further sought an increase in the number of suitable train stoppages at Singanallur Railway Station wherever operationally feasible. The MP requested the Salem Division to examine the feasibility of the proposals and initiate appropriate action at the earliest.
