The Department of Physical Education, VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science, organised the Sixth Edition of the VLBJ Inter-School Coimbatore District-Level Tournament recently.

The two-day tournament brought together 35 school teams from across the district, featuring football, handball and chess.

Presiding over the inaugural function, Kumar, Principal, emphasised the transformative power of sports in cultivating leadership, teamwork, perseverance and character among young learners.

Krish Beethoven, an international athlete and official of the Income Tax Department, was the chief guest and Vairavanathan, an alumna of VLBJCAS and an Athletics Coach, was the special guest.

On the second day, the Chess Tournament was inaugurated by Soundarya, an alumna of VLBJCAS and a chess trainer associated with the Coimbatore Chess Centre.

During the valedictory, Suryakumar, Chairman, VLBJ Trust, welcomed the gathering and reaffirmed the institution’s unwavering commitment to promoting sporting excellence and nurturing young talent. Dhanabhakyam, Head, Department of Commerce, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, was the chief guest.

In the Football Tournament, the Winners’ title was secured by Nirmala Matha Higher Secondary School, Vellalore, while Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Thondamuthur, emerged as the Runners-up.

In the Handball Tournament, Pioneer Mills School lifted the Winner’s Trophy, with Sri Sakthi International School finishing as the Runners-up.

In the Chess Tournament, outstanding performances were recorded in both the Boys’ and Girls’ categories. In the Boys’ category, the Winner was Arun Subramaniyan from Vivekam School, and the Runner-up was Muthukumar.

In the Girls’ category, Yuvashree of BVB School emerged as the Winner, and Sanjana from Gedee Public School secured the Runner-up position.

Individual honours, including Best Player, Emerging Player, Best Defender and Best Goalkeeper, were conferred on deserving players in both the Football and Handball events.
