Young Indians (Yi) Coimbatore, under the aegis of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), organised “Namakku Vendam – Drug-Free Kovai”, a city-wide drug awareness rally and pledge campaign at Media Tower, Race Course, bringing together more than 300 college students from across the city.
The initiative, organised by the Yi Health and Yi Yuva verticals, was held in support of the government’s campaign to create a drug-free Coimbatore through awareness, youth engagement and community participation.

Sree Giriprasath, MLA, Singanallur, and Thangadurai, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order–North), Coimbatore, attended the programme as chief guests.
The programme commenced with a drug awareness rally in which students marched with placards carrying messages against substance abuse, spreading awareness among the public on the importance of making healthy and responsible life choices.
Addressing the gathering, Rahul Kamath, Chair, Young Indians Coimbatore, said building a drug-free society is a shared responsibility. He stressed that awareness, education and collective action involving the government, police, educational institutions, parents and community organisations are essential to safeguarding the younger generation.
The chief guests addressed the students on the challenges posed by drug abuse and urged them to become ambassadors of change by promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging their peers to make informed choices.
A drug-free pledge was administered by the chief guests, with all participants pledging to stay away from drugs and spread awareness among their families, friends and college communities.
The programme also featured awareness performances by Yi Yuva students, addresses by the chief guests and the presentation of prizes to the winners of the Drug Awareness Poster Competition.
Organisers said the initiative reflects Young Indians Coimbatore’s commitment to working with the government and the police department to promote awareness against drug abuse and encourage youth participation in building a drug-free society.
