The Department of Horticulture, Department of Tourism and The Nilgiris District Administration will jointly organize the Nilgiris Summer Festival 2026 in May, with the 128th Ooty Flower Show being the major highlight.
The main season planting began in February 2026. Sources shared that nearly 10 lakh flower saplings of 275 varieties including Geranium, Cyclamen, Balsam, several new varieties of Ornamental Kale, Oriental Lily, Asiatic Lily, Dahlia, Begonia, Candytuft, Pansy, Petunia, and Phlox-procured from Japan, the USA, Germany, the Netherlands, and various states across India have been planted across the Govt. Botanical Garden in Ooty.
50,000 pots featuring colorful flowers are being installed. Last year, the show attracted 25 lakh visitors to The Nilgiris. This time, the organizers are aiming to achieve similar incredible figures. Besides Flower Show, the festival includes 66th Fruit Show, 21st Rose Show and the 12th Spices Show.
While the official dates are awaited from the organizers, sources say that the fest is likely to begin after the TN Assembly Election results are out. A report mentions that lack of sufficient summer rains has had an impact on the preparation aspects for the festival.
