The market size of the textile sector increased from ₹4.89 lakh crore in 2010 to ₹14.95 lakh crore in 2024, reflecting a strong expansion of the industry. Household demand continues to be a key driver, contributing ₹8.77 lakh crore, while per capita demand has risen significantly to ₹6,066, according to the Market for Textiles & Clothing – National Household Survey 2024 report.

The report was released recently by Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh in the presence of Neelam Sami Rao, Secretary (Textiles), along with senior officials from the Ministry of Textiles.

Based on a nationwide household consumption survey conducted by the Textiles Committee, the report highlights the sector’s robust growth trajectory, driven by rising consumption across the country.

It also notes a growing share of man-made and blended fibres, which account for 52.2% of usage, alongside increasing demand for sustainable textiles and wider adoption of technical textile products in both rural and urban households.

The report is expected to serve as a valuable reference for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and businesses in shaping future strategies for the textile sector.
