Hindusthan College of Engineering and Technology celebrated World Consumer Rights Day and inaugurated the Standards Club recently at the college.

Jaya, Principal of the college, delivered the welcome address. During the felicitation, Siva, Dean, IIS and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of quality standards in engineering education and industry.

The inaugural address was delivered by Bhavani, Scientist-F / Senior Director and Head of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Coimbatore Branch Office. She explained the role of BIS in ensuring quality, safety and reliability of products and services and highlighted the importance of standards in daily life.

This was followed by an introduction to BIS activities by Ramesh, Scientist-E / Director, BIS Coimbatore Branch Office, who elaborated on various initiatives undertaken by BIS to promote standardization and consumer awareness.

Further, Rino John, Scientist-E / Director, BIS Coimbatore Branch Office, presented an introduction to the BIS Standards Club initiative and explained how Standards Clubs help students understand the importance of standards and quality culture.

The programme also witnessed the launch of Standards Clubs in the presence of dignitaries on the dais. Additionally, the World Consumer Rights Day quiz competition poster was unveiled to encourage student participation and promote consumer awareness.

Later, Karthick, Coordinator of all Standards Clubs, and mentors of 13 Standards Clubs were introduced, marking the expansion of the Standards Club movement among students and strengthening the promotion of standardization and quality awareness in the student community.

The event created awareness among students about standardization, quality and consumer rights, and encouraged their active participation in BIS Standards Club activities.
