Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, Coimbatore, carried out the organ donation of Ravichandran (59), who was declared brain dead, through which organs were donated to five patients on 23 January 2026.
Ravichandran was admitted with a diagnosis of cerebrovascular accident (CVA) with right middle cerebral artery (MCA) infarction. He was treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and supported on mechanical ventilation. Despite medical efforts, he sustained irreversible brain damage and was declared brain dead, the hospital noted.
Following the consent of his family, organ donation was carried out. His liver, both kidneys, and both corneas were retrieved and allocated to recipients in multiple hospitals, providing transplants to five patients.
Sri Ramakrishna Hospital expressed gratitude to the family of Ravichandran for consenting to organ donation. The organ donation was carried out under the initiative and guidance of the Government of Tamil Nadu, with the organs shared and transplanted in various hospitals across the state.
