Uyir, a Non-Governmental Organisation working for road safety in Coimbatore, honoured the Best Volunteering College and Group Mentors and its award and felicitation ceremony held at the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner’s Office on 22nd January 2025.
The event was graced by Saravana Sundar, Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, who served as the Chief Guest.
The Commissioner applauded the Principals and Uyir Club volunteers and mentors for their relentless efforts in promoting road safety awareness and behavioural change among the community.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner remarked, “The commitment shown by these young volunteers and mentors in saving lives and promoting road safety is truly inspiring. Initiatives like these lay the foundation for a safer and more responsible society.”
Recognizing Excellence
The Commissioner of Police felicitated the Best Road Safety Volunteering Colleges for their exemplary contributions to road safety education and community outreach. The awards recognized colleges that demonstrated outstanding participation in instilling road safety habits among young students. The event also celebrated the exceptional leadership of group mentors who guided and motivated volunteers to achieve significant milestones.
The awardees included Suguna College of Arts and Science, Rathinam College of Arts and Science, Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Sri Krishna College of Technology, Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College, VLB Janakiammal Arts and Science College, and GKNM Institute of Nursing, Coimbatore.
Further, about 35 best Uyir Club Mentors were felicitated for their remarkable commitment and contribution towards Road Safety volunteering which nearly 15,000 man-hours of volunteering services were contributed.
Ashok Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic; Sitrarasu, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Traffic Planning; Balasubramaniyan, Education Coordinator, Uyir; Thirumoorthi, Project Consultant and Kanaga Subramani, Resource Person, Uyir were also present.
