Dr. Ranjith, Cardiologist, KG Hospital, recently expressed his heartfelt gratitude and conveyed his patient’s appreciation to Dr. G. Bakthavathsalam, Chairman of the hospital, and Vasanthi, President.
In his message, Dr. Ranjith shared the story of a 40-year-old male patient, a civil engineer, who was driving to the railway station for personal work when he began experiencing chest discomfort and excessive sweating (diaphoresis). Despite the symptoms, he continued driving to drop off his family. However, as his condition worsened, he decided to head toward KG Hospital. Unfortunately, due to heavy traffic near the hospital, he couldn’t reach the entrance and was forced to honk continuously for attention.
One of the security personnel noticed the patient’s distress and went to check on him. Realizing the gravity of the situation, the security team cleared the traffic and brought him to the hospital, where the patient collapsed at the gate. Without waiting for formal procedures like a Code Blue or a stretcher, the security and transport staff immediately carried the patient into the Emergency Department.
An ECG revealed that the patient had suffered an Inferior Wall Myocardial Infarction (heart attack) with a 2:1 AV block, and his heart rate had dropped to 45 beats per minute. He was quickly administered a loading dose of Heparin to stabilize his condition.
Dr. Ranjith discussed the situation over the phone with the patient’s wife, who gave her approval for a Primary Angioplasty. She arrived at the hospital within 15 minutes, provided formal consent, and the patient was prepared for a Coronary Angiogram (CAG). The angiogram revealed a 100% occlusion in the Right Coronary Artery (RCA). The medical team performed a successful Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) with stenting, supported by a temporary pacemaker.
The patient is now in stable condition and is expected to be discharged soon.
Dr. Ranjith conveyed the deep gratitude of the patient and his wife to the security and transport staff for their swift action, which saved the patient’s life. They also expressed their appreciation to the hospital management for proceeding with the emergency angioplasty without insisting on an initial payment.
The patient further acknowledged the pivotal role of Dr. G. Bakthavathsalam’s educational video on heart attack symptoms, which made him recognize the warning signs early and seek prompt medical attention.
