Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangakalin Peramaippu (Tamil Nadu Traders Association Confederation) organised a felicitation ceremony to mark the recent restructuring of the Goods and Services Tax, referred to as GST 2.0, at the PSG iTech Convention Centre on November 11, 2025.

The event was graced by Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, who inaugurated the ceremony by lighting the lamp.

Vikramaraja, President of the Association, presided over the event and delivered the presidential address, while Govindarajalu, State General Secretary, extended the welcome address.

In his address, Vikramaraja thanked the minister for introducing two tax slabs and requested the introduction of a single tax slab. He expressed hope that a one-slab tax system would be implemented and requested a 5% tax rate for small traders. The president then submitted a memorandum containing 33 demands to the minister.

Satakatullah, State Treasurer, and Rajkumar, State Chief Secretary, delivered the keynote addresses.

Distinguished guests at the event included Raju Apsara, President of Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi; Ramachandra Lakhoti, President of Karnataka State Food Grains Trade Confederation; Jayantilal Challani, President of The Jewellers and Diamond Traders Association, Madras; Venkadasubbu, President of Tamil Nadu Hotels Association; and Sivashankar and Babu, Presidents of the Puducherry Traders Federation. They expressed their gratitude for GST 2.0, calling it a great Diwali gift.

Venkadasubbu requested the minister to introduce a single tax slab and also asked for a pension scheme. He further requested input tax relief for hotels.

Zonal Presidents, Secretaries, Treasurers, and members from across the state also participated in the event.

In her address, Nirmala Sitharaman dedicated the recognition and honour bestowed upon her to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, acknowledging his leadership and vision behind the GST 2.0 reform.

The heads of the Association expressed their gratitude to the Minister for implementing GST 2.0 and felicitated her with a memento.

In return, she presented a memento to the Association heads.
