Every year, the first Tuesday of May is observed as World Asthma Day by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) to raise awareness about asthma and improve asthma care around the world.

This year (2025), May 6 is observed as World Asthma Day with the theme: “Make Inhaled Treatments Accessible for ALL.”

The theme, chosen by GINA, emphasises the importance of ensuring that individuals with asthma have access to inhaled medications essential for controlling the disease and treating asthma attacks.

Globally, asthma affects over 260 million people and is responsible for more than 450,000 deaths annually, many of which are preventable. In low- and middle-income countries, the lack of availability or high cost of inhaled medications contributes to 96% of global asthma-related deaths.

Marking World Asthma Day, Sri Ramakrishna Hospital in Coimbatore is offering a special package that includes:

  • Pulmonary Function Test
  • Impulse Oscillometry
  • Serum Total IgE
  • Absolute Eosinophil Count
  • Chest X-Ray
  • Pulmonologist Consultation

This package is available at a cost of ₹1,650 and is valid until 15th May 2025.

The Department of Pulmonology of the hospital has also advised the following to help prevent asthma attacks:

  • Take your regular asthma medications as prescribed
  • Avoid exposure to dust, smoke, and pollen
  • Get appropriate vaccinations
  • Monitor your breathing and peak flow readings regularly
