Rotary International District 3206 announced recently that its flagship project Save Our Daughters – Cyber Champions has empowered more than 38,500 young girls in the area of cyber safety and digital well-being for young girls.

Launched in July 2025 by District Governor Rtn. Chella K. Raghavendran, District Learning Facilitator PDG Rtn. A.V. Pathy, and District Governor Elect Rtn. Maruthi Samba, the Daughters Project – Cyber Safety Awareness Program was successfully conceptualized, structured, and implemented across Rotary International District 3206 under the leadership of District Daughters Chair Rtn. Kavitha Gopalakrishnan.

The initiative was designed to empower girls with essential cyber safety knowledge, leadership skills, and responsible digital citizenship in an increasingly connected world. Through this project, 3,500 students were directly trained and certified as Cyber Champions. As part of their commitment, each Cyber Champion further trained at least 10 other girls, resulting in an impressive outreach of over 38,500 girls across the district.

The project witnessed active participation and support from Rotary Club of Coimbatore Aakruthi, Rotary Club of Coimbatore West, Rotary Club of Coimbatore, Rotary Club of Thondamuthur, Rotary Club of Coimbatore Aalam, Rotary Club of Coimbatore RISE, and Rotary Club of Coimbatore Saicity.

The program was implemented across leading educational institutions including ELGI School, Nirmala College for Women, Martin Homoeopathy Medical College & Hospital, Government Arts and Science College – Thondamuthur, Government Arts and Science College for Women – Puliakulam, and CS Academy, Coimbatore, where the valedictory program was held.

Rtn. Kavitha Gopalakrishnan, District Daughters Chair, said, “Cyber safety is an essential life skill for every girl in today’s digital world. Through the Cyber Champions initiative, we aimed to empower young girls with the knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills needed to stay safe online and guide others towards responsible digital citizenship. The impact created by these Cyber Champions demonstrates how empowered girls can become catalysts for positive change in their communities.”

iExplore Foundation served as the Knowledge Partner for the initiative. The program curriculum was curated and delivered by a team of experts led by R. Navaneethakrishnan, Director, iExplore Foundation, along with cyber safety expert Selvarani Mylsamy and other industry professionals.

Students underwent training in 15 critical cyber safety modules, covering topics such as online privacy, cyberbullying, digital footprints, social media safety, phishing attacks, cyber laws, and responsible digital citizenship. Participants who successfully completed the assessment were certified as Cyber Champions.

To ensure sustainability, Cyber Champions Clubs were established in participating institutions, with student leaders formally installed. These clubs will continue to promote cyber safety awareness among students, parents, and the wider community.

Institutions that created 100 or more Cyber Champions were recognized as “Cyber Champion Institutions” for their outstanding commitment to digital safety education.

The project witnessed the active engagement of Rotary District leadership, including the District Governor, Governor Elect, Governor Nominee, and several senior Rotary leaders, demonstrating District 3206’s strong commitment to protecting and empowering young girls.

The Save Our Daughters – Cyber Champions initiative stands as a remarkable example of how Rotary can address critical societal challenges through education, awareness, and youth leadership. By creating thousands of cyber-aware young leaders, Rotary District 3206 and iExplore Foundation have laid the foundation for a safer and more responsible digital future for girls and communities alike.
