PSG College of Technology today held an Orientation Programme for first-year B.E. and B.Tech. Students. The chief guest, Anugraha, an alumna of the college and Chief Vigilance Officer, Chennai Port Authority, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, addressed the students.
Krishnaveni, Head, Department of ECE, delivered the welcome address. Thilagavathi, Principal of the college, honoured the chief guest and delivered the presidential address.

Reflecting on her life experiences, Anugraha shared two important life lessons with the students: handling uncertainties and building resilience.
“In your tough times and high-risk situations, if you remain calm, focused and work hard, you will get through it,” she said, adding that this has been true in her own life. She also stressed the importance of having the ability to get up and move forward, no matter what happens in life.
“After four years, there will be uncertainty about how the job market will be. At that time, you have to remain calm and focused so that you can get through it,” she said.
She advised the students not to compare themselves with others. “PSG is a place to explore, and there is no need for insecurities. Build your plan, as you have very supportive faculty and staff,” she said. She also encouraged the students to participate in extracurricular activities with an open mind. In her address, she also thanked the parents.
She emphasised that attention and focus are important assets in achieving one’s dreams. She also stressed the importance of developing friendships and maintaining contact with seniors.
Anugraha urged the students to make safety a habit and highlighted the importance of cybersecurity. She also advised them to take care of their physical and mental health. “You are responsible for your safety and health,” she said.
She further encouraged the students to develop the habit of saving and investing and suggested that the management conduct sessions on financial literacy.

-Thilagavathi, Principal, PSG Tech
In her presidential address, welcomed the students, saying that they were entering the college in a special year—the centenary year of PSG & Sons’ Charities and the 75th year of the college.
“When you graduate from PSG, the question should not only be, ‘What did PSG give me?’ but also, ‘What did I contribute to PSG?’ With that spirit, I invite you to the college,” she said.
“From the first semester, I request you to develop four habits: attend your classes sincerely, ask questions, explore beyond the syllabus, and reflect on what you are learning and whether you are heading in the right direction. Explore the real industry world on our campus. Use the four years at PSG to develop your skills, knowledge, and character to face the challenging world after graduation.”
She encouraged the students to participate in extracurricular activities and technical projects, take responsibility, and volunteer in social activities. She also thanked the parents for trusting PSG Tech. Finally, the Principal said that students could approach the college authorities to share and discuss their problems.
