The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Rathinam College of Arts and Science, Eachanari, organised a seven-day NSS Special Camp at the Government Higher Secondary School, Muthukavundanur, from December 24 to 30, 2025.
The camp was inaugurated on December 24 by Manikkam, CEO and Secretary, Rathinam Group of Institutions.

Thirunavukarasu, PTA President, participated as the chief guest and spoke on the importance of voluntary service and student participation in community development.
The inaugural function was attended by Balasubramanian, Principal; Suresh, Vice Principal; Sabareesh, Dean – Research & Development; Dhinakaran, Dean – Academics; Hemalata, Dean – Commerce; Srinivasan, Dean – School of Science; Raju, Dean – Students Affairs; Sathis Ananthan, Dean – Fine Arts; and Bhuvaneshwari, Headmistress of the host school.
As part of the camp activities, NSS volunteers undertook campus cleanliness drives, environmental awareness programmes, health and hygiene campaigns, tree plantation, herbal garden and kitchen garden development, and infrastructure improvement works at the school premises.
On the second day, cleanliness activities were carried out across the school campus, followed by the establishment of a herbal and kitchen garden.

In the afternoon, Yugeshraj, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce and Programme Officer NSS, Sri Ramalinga Sowdambigai College of Science and Commerce, Thondamuthur, addressed the volunteers on “One Hour for Nature”.
He highlighted individual responsibility towards environmental conservation. In the evening, awareness programmes on alcohol de-addiction and plastic eradication were presented through street plays.
A Disaster Management Awareness Programme was organised on the fourth day with practical demonstrations by the Kinathukadavu Fire and Rescue Services Department. Volunteers and local residents were trained in fire safety measures, disaster preparedness, and emergency response techniques.
On the fifth day, social awareness cultural programmes were conducted for the public of Sokkanur Panchayat, focusing on Central and State government welfare schemes, ill effects of tobacco and alcohol, and the importance of women’s education. Local children also participated in cultural performances.
As part of the environmental awareness sessions, Senthil Kumar from “Aalam Vizhuthugal” delivered a special talk on “Trees and Human Life”, emphasising the inseparable relationship between nature and human survival.
The sixth day was observed under the theme “Clean India”, during which extensive cleanliness and whitewashing works were carried out in classrooms, pathways, and compound walls of the school. Awareness was also created among students and residents on public hygiene and sanitation.
The valedictory function of the NSS Special Camp was held on December 30, 2025, with Manikkam presiding over the event.
Parthasarathi, University NSS Coordinator, Bharathiar University, participated as the chief guest and addressed the volunteers on the role of NSS in shaping socially responsible and value-driven youth.
The seven-day camp was coordinated by Gnanasekar, Saravananakumar, and Soundarya, NSS Programme Officers of Rathinam College.
Around 150 NSS volunteers actively participated in the camp, contributing to community development and social awareness initiatives.
