Delegates led by Rajesh B Lund, President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Coimbatore met Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways at Coimbatore Railway Junction during the minister’s recent visit to the city.

The delegation included Dorairaj, Vice President; Pradeep, Hon. Secretary; Kailash Kumar, Treasurer; Balasubramanian, Past President; Vasudeva Bhagat, Member of the Coimbatore Station Consultative Committee and Sathish, Special Invitee to the Governing Council.

During the meeting, the association submitted a memorandum requesting the Minister to declare Coimbatore as the headquarters for a railway division in southern railways and also for improving railway infrastructure facilities at Podanur and north Coimbatore railway.

Lund pointed out to the Minister that Coimbatore Junction generates top revenue in the Divisional Headquarters of Southern Railways. Since the population of the city has crossed 30 lakhs and due to the growing economy, it has attracted a lot of people, especially guest workers from various parts of the Country. Hence creation of more infrastructure facilities at the Podanur and North Coimbatore Junctions will be beneficial to the train-travelling public. “The Minister agreed to look into the representation,” says the association.
