The iconic Racecourse in Coimbatore, a historic and well-maintained urban park originally established as a British horse racing facility in the early 19th century, is set to become greener and more sustainable with new environmental initiatives.
Siruthuli, in collaboration with the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation and in partnership with the Racecourse and Neighbourhood Association (RANA), has announced a plan to enhance the green cover in the area by planting more native saplings.
The initiative aims to further improve the air quality in this popular walking and jogging hub, which is known for its lush greenery and vibrant atmosphere.
As part of the environmental efforts, roadside rainwater harvesting structures will also be constructed at two key locations in the Racecourse.
These structures are designed to capture rainwater runoff and recharge the groundwater aquifer, promoting long-term water sustainability.
In support of these initiatives, RANA has contributed ₹5 lakhs. Aditya Balasundaram and Kamini Surendaran, President and Secretary of RANA, handed over the cheque to Vanitha Mohan, Managing Trustee of Siruthuli, in the presence of Sujani Balu, Steering Committee Member of Siruthuli.
Residents of Racecourse have also pledged their continued participation and commitment towards building a cleaner and greener environment.
