Orumai Payanam, a key event of Coimbatore Vizha was organized, recently.
Nearly 100 students and 17 teachers & staff from 14 various educational institutions were taken to 5 places of worship of different religions that are located within a 1.5 km radius in the city along with their teachers.
The students started their journey in the morning from Arul Migu Konniamman Temple then visited St.Michael Church, Athar Jamaath Masjid, Gurudwara Singh Sabha and Jain Temple.
The heads of the respective religious places welcomed the students and shared the message their religion preaches. The students got the chance to visit these places which they usually do not get in their day-to-day life.
They finally gathered at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial in Podanur for the closing ceremony.
Vijayaragavan, Head, Youth Leadership Programme, Shanti Ashram welcomed the students and participants.
Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan took part as the Chief Guest and congratulated the Coimbatore Vizha team for organizing this event that will reveal to students the values that all religions teach.
Pulavar Shivashankari from Koniamman temple; Fr. Mani Arockiasamy, Priest from St.Michael’s Church; Amanullah, President, Peer Mohammad, Secretary, Imam Ibrahim Baqavi from Athar jamath; Gurpreet Singh, Secretary, Gurudwara Singh Saba and Gulabchand Mehtha, President, Jain Temple also participated in the closing ceremony.
Student representatives of each school expressed what they had learned during their visits. After their verbal testimonial, an inter-faith prayer was held and all students participated in it.
