Various steps have been taken to reduce plastic waste at Marudhamalai, and to ensure the same, Somayampalayam Village Panchayat administration recently launched a dedicated center too.
A total of 20 CCTV cameras have been installed in the hill and foothills area to observe visitors and prevent them from throwing plastic waste. A dedicated Plastic Collection Centre has also been set up at the foothills.
Stickers will be applied on plastic bottles that are taken to the Subramaniyaswamy Temple in the hills by the Devotees/Visitors. They should pay Rs. 10/bottle. During their return they can reclaim their money after showing the bottles with the stickers intact.
In addition to this, a tractor has also been bought to immediately bring down the plastic waste that accumulates in the hills, probably because of the plastic covers/bottles taken up by visitors going via their own vehicles.
