Apart from offering soft and hot puffs, coconut buns, fresh and rich cream cakes, refreshing hot and cold beverages, and a delightful range of South Indian dishes, KR Bakes has created an eco-friendly space in Coimbatore where myriad species of birds and trees can thrive, while also serving as a much-needed lung space for the rapidly growing city.
“We bought a 50-acre land in 2011 at Navakarai village in Coimbatore District with the sole intention of creating an enormous, lush meadow that would serve as a sanctuary for birds and various life forms. We are happy to share with the people of Coimbatore that this land stands as a living example of what dedication to nature can achieve,” said K.R. Balan, Founder, and Sujith Ayanikkal, Director of KR Bakes.
What was once barren land has been transformed into a thriving forest through over 14 years of continuous effort by the KR Bakes family. This space, called KR Bakes Family Farm, is home to tens of thousands of native and medicinal trees, along with countless birds, insects, and other life forms.
“When we bought this land, we were blessed to have a big Banyan tree and about ten coconut trees already on the premises. Today, we have planted 50,000 trees here. This farm was created as a personal and heartfelt initiative to support the environment. Every corner of the farm reflects care, from the dense canopy of trees and native plants to the presence of cattle, creating a peaceful, self-sustaining ecosystem,” expressed Sujith.
Amidst the dense foliage, there is also a small temple, symbolizing the family’s spiritual connection with the land. The management is planning to open this farm to the public, taking steps to make it a green haven that everyone can experience.
“Every minute spent here will be peaceful to the mind and blissful to the body, as the trees here carry medicinal value too,” added Sujith.
