KPR College of Engineering and Technology launched a ‘Centre of Excellence’ in collaboration with KONE on Friday at its campus, marking a major initiative to strengthen industry–academia linkages in the field of vertical mobility.
The centre was inaugurated by Saravanan, Senior Director – People, Communications and Social Responsibility (CSR), KONE.
The facility has been established to provide vocational training in elevator technology, enabling students to gain practical exposure to modern vertical transportation systems, safety procedures, and installation and maintenance practices. Modern equipment and simulation facilities have been set up for this purpose.
Speaking at the event, Saravanan said, “It is essential for educational institutions and industry to work together to meet the needs of future industries. World-class skill-based education will lay the foundation for the progress of students.”
Gayathri Anandakrishnan, Secretary of KPR Educational Institutions, said the initiative would enhance students’ technical skills and promote research and innovation in elevator engineering. She added that it would also create opportunities for internships, certificate courses, and industry linkage programmes.
Among those present were Kotresh Jogikalmath of KONE; Devipriya, Principal of the college; Thamaraikannan, Director of the Career Development Center; Ramesh Babu, Head of the Mechanical Department; faculty members; and students.
