The Department of Physical Education at Kongunadu Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Coimbatore, in association with the World Children Taekwondo Union, Children Taekwondo Union of India, and Children Taekwondo Union of Tamil Nadu, organised the 1st State-Level Taekwondo Championship 2025 on 12th and 13th July 2025.

Master Shivaram Makwana, Vice President of the World Children Taekwondo Union and President of the Children Taekwondo Union of India, inaugurated the event.

The championship commenced with a highly skilled demonstration by young Taekwondo players, followed by matches in four different courts, featuring the Under-18 kg and Sub-Junior categories.

On 13th July 2025, the Kongunadu Taekwondo Academy was formally inaugurated. Major Kavithashri, Director of Physical Education, welcomed the gathering.

Sangeetha, Principal of the College, offered felicitations and highlighted the role of sports in character-building. “Integrity, perseverance, and self-control are the key factors that turn a player into a champion,” she said.

C.A. Vasuki, Secretary and Director of the College, delivered the Presidential Address. She encouraged students to aim high and represent India in the Olympics. Applauding the coaches’ efforts, she emphasised that Taekwondo instils discipline and improves concentration through coordinated hand and leg movements.

Master Shivaram Makwana, in his Chief Guest Address, expressed his hope that India would soon dominate international Taekwondo competitions. He encouraged young players to take qualifying tests and become coaches, thereby nurturing future talent. He also announced that the Gold Medal winners of this State-Level Championship would be directly selected for the upcoming World Championship event.

As a proud moment for the institution, he nominated Major Kavithashri as the Vice President of the Children Taekwondo Union of Tamil Nadu. He also appreciated Master Pradeep Kumar for his outstanding dedication in training a large number of Taekwondo players.

Manivanan, Correspondent of RPM Vidhyalaya and Siruvani RPM Trust, Coimbatore, delivered the Special Address. Reflecting on his background in weightlifting and powerlifting, he motivated students to train hard and bring Olympic glory to the nation.

Kumar, Coordinator of the SF Stream and Head, Department of Commerce with Computer Applications, proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Prizes and medals were awarded to winners across various categories. A total of 389 participants from across the state took part in the event.

  • Karur District claimed the Fourth Position
