The KMCH College of Nursing recently organized the National Nursing Research Summit 2024, centered on the theme of “Enhance Evidence through Mixed Method Research.”

This one-day conference aimed to equip healthcare professionals, educators, and researchers with a profound understanding of mixed-method research, highlighting its pivotal role in advancing evidence-based practices.

The event emphasized emerging trends, ethical considerations, and practical applications of mixed methods to enhance the quality of healthcare research. Madhavi, Principal of the College welcomed the gathering.

Dr Thavamani D. Palanisami, Managing Trustee of Dr NGP Research and Educational Trust, presided over the event, emphasizing the potential for more research and scholarly contributions within the nursing profession.

Latha Venkatesan, Professor and Principal at AIIMS, New Delhi, graced the occasion as the esteemed Chief Guest. In her inspiring address, she highlighted the future directions of mixed-method research and commended the College for its outstanding contributions to nursing education.

She praised the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, its innovative approaches, and its role in shaping competent nursing professionals who significantly impact healthcare delivery.

Muthuswamy, Director, Dr NGP Educational Institutions delivered a felicitation address, expressing his admiration for the dedication and achievements of the nursing community. He highlighted the critical role of nursing education in shaping the future of healthcare and commended the efforts of educators in nurturing competent and compassionate nursing professionals.

Vathsala Sadan, Former Dean, CMC Vellore provided a detailed overview of mixed-method research, emphasizing its effectiveness in integrating qualitative and quantitative approaches in diverse sociocultural contexts. She highlighted the practical applications and adaptability of the methodology to address complex research questions.

Latha Venkatesan, AIIMS, New Delhi discussed emerging trends in mixed-method research and future directions, encouraging researchers to adopt innovative strategies. Her session emphasized the role of mixed-method research in addressing modern healthcare challenges.

Lakshmi Ramamoorthy, JIPMER, Puducherry offered a step-by-step guide on designing mixed-method research, focusing on aligning research questions with methodological frameworks. She stressed the importance of coherence between qualitative and quantitative components.

Madhavi, Principal explored advanced data collection techniques in mixed-method research, going beyond traditional triangulation. She demonstrated innovative methods to ensure data integration and validity.

Ramesh, SRIHER, Chennai shared practical tips on preparing strong research proposals for mixed-method studies and securing funding. He provided insights into aligning proposals with funding agency priorities.

Angela Gnanadurai, Principal, Jubilee Mission College of Nursing addressed ethical and methodological challenges in mixed-method research, offering solutions to maintain rigor and integrity. She emphasised the importance of informed consent and cultural sensitivity.

Shalini G Nayak, Manipal College of Nursing discussed best practices for reporting findings from mixed-method research, ensuring clarity and coherence. She highlighted techniques to effectively present integrated results to diverse audiences.

The event also featured a scientific paper presentation segment, offering participants the opportunity to share their research findings. Abstracts were thoroughly reviewed for originality, and the organizing committee awarded the best paper.

The conference saw enthusiastic participation from approximately 500 delegates representing various institutions and states, including undergraduate and postgraduate students, PBBSc students, faculty members, PhD scholars, and principals.

The summit concluded with a valedictory session that summarized the day’s key takeaways. Participants praised the insightful discussions and expert knowledge shared throughout the event.

The conference successfully met its objectives, equipping attendees with practical and theoretical insights into adopting mixed-method research in healthcare.
