The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore (ICCIC), on behalf of its members from the trade, industry, and service sectors, wholeheartedly welcomes the proposal from the Union Finance Ministry, which indicated that the proposed policy of a five-day banking week will not be implemented in 2025–2026, citing potential disruption to banking operations,” said Rajesh B. Lund, President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore.
Lund also stated that the Finance Ministry has taken timely action, as a five-day banking week could have a negative impact on banking services, including potential disruptions to banking operations and customer service.
Moreover, he mentioned that banking is an integral part of the entire financial sector. Banks may need to adapt their operations, potentially by extending working hours on weekdays, enhancing digital banking platforms, and implementing appointment systems. “A strong banking system supports overall economic stability, benefiting businesses, individuals, and their communities,” added Lund.
