Charanjit Singh Shah, Principal Architect of Creative Group, Delhi and King of Indian Airports, who was the guest of honour at the recent installation ceremony of The Indian Institute of Interior Designers (IIID), Coimbatore Centre, in his address, he highlighted the influence of Indian architecture on his work.
He said that airports he has designed, including those in Ayodhya, Varanasi, Coimbatore, and Chennai, draw inspiration from India’s age-old temple sculptures, which provided ideas that he incorporated into modern airport construction.
He further emphasised the importance of observing one’s surroundings for inspiration, noting how the wings of birds inspired the concept of flight. He advised young designers to draw ideas from their environment and creatively implement them in their work.
