Hindusthan College of Arts & Science, Coimbatore, in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Chennai, conducted the Young Student Scientist Programme (YSSP).
It was conducted for class IX students from Government Schools in Tiruppur and Erode districts.
The 15-day programme was held from 21st May to 4th June 2025 and aimed at fostering scientific curiosity and innovation among young minds. The valedictory ceremony took place on 4th June 2025 at the college.
Rajalakshmi, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, delivered the welcome address. Ponnusamy, Principal of Hindusthan College of Arts & Science, presided over the event and delivered the Presidential Address.
Senthilkumar, Associate Professor in Biotechnology and Coordinator of YSSP, presented a comprehensive overview of the programme, highlighting key activities and student engagement throughout the 15 days.
The event was graced by Kovai Sadasivam, an eminent Environmentalist, Writer, Storyteller, Documentary Filmmaker, and Speaker, who chaired the session and delivered the Valedictory Address.
He stressed the vital role of science in achieving sustainable development and spoke passionately about the challenges facing biodiversity today.
He encouraged students to actively contribute to the preservation of ecological systems and emphasised the importance of young minds in environmental conservation.
TRK Sarasuwathi, Secretary of Hindusthan Educational and Charitable Trust, and K. Priya, Executive Secretary of the Trust, offered their felicitations, lauding the initiative for nurturing a scientific spirit among school students.
As a part of the event, students showcased their talents through working model presentations such as Rover, Hydrogen Fuel Tank, Evolution of Earth, Footprint power generation and Environmental monitoring station. The best presentations were awarded with medal and certificate.
Around 80 students from various Government Schools in Tiruppur and Erode districts participated.
The faculty of the Department of Biotechnology, along with parents and teachers of the participating students, were also present at the valedictory function.
