Dr G R Damodaran College of Science is organising a six-day ATAL Online Faculty Development Programme on the role and impact of Artificial Intelligence in Data Analytics, being conducted from 22 to 27 September 2025. Around 200 faculty members from different parts of the country are participating in the programme.
The speakers for the workshop are from nationally reputed institutions and the industry.
The sessions covered various aspects of Artificial Intelligence and its role in data analytics. Topics discussed included the role of Machine Learning (ML) in data analytics and its applications in descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics.
The sessions provided a simplified understanding of ML as “learning from data,” along with predictive and prescriptive use cases, and a case study on online testing platforms with a focus on fairness and ethical outcomes.
The lectures also introduced the concept of multi-label classification, where each instance can belong to multiple categories. Methods such as problem transformation and algorithm adaptation were explained, along with evaluation metrics like Hamming Loss and F1-score. A live demonstration on predicting multiple labels from a dataset was also presented.
The transformative power of Artificial Intelligence across global industries was highlighted through tools like DALL·E and ChatGPT, along with applications in video editing, machine vision, and digital transformation. The importance of prompting techniques and the increasing role of AI-driven tools in reshaping workflows and fostering innovation were emphasised.
The sessions further covered key aspects of data analytics, including its importance, life cycle, dataset visualisation, machine learning models, and model workflows. Emphasis was also placed on model selection, classifiers, and recent advancements in transformer architectures.
The department thanked the Chairman and Correspondent, and the Secretary for their constant support and encouragement in organising the ATAL FDP.
