Gopalakrishnan, Managing Director, Metro Group Companies, Karur has been elected as the FIEO (Federation of Indian Export Organisations) Southern Regional Chairman, recently.
FIEO is the premier export promotion organization of India, working under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The organization has 17 offices across the country, covering all major states and metros with 6 offices in the Southern Region.
Gopalakrishnan has vast experience in international trade and earlier served two- term as the National Chairman of the Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC) under the Ministry of Textiles, spearheading international fairs, delegations, and policy advocacy.
He currently holds the position as the President, Karur Textile Manufacturers and Exporters Association (KTMEA), Karur where he drives initiatives like the Textile Trade Center and the development of a Textile Hub with plug-and-play factories and common facilities, etc.
Gopalakrishnan is the Founding Director of Karur Textile Park and served as a Steering Committee member of Bharat Tex, the world’s largest textile fair, contributing his expertise to shape India’s textile industry.
He is also the past Chairman of the CII Karur Chapter, In addition, Gopalakrishnan is the Executive Director of BNI Karur, leading a network of entrepreneurs, fostering collaboration, and driving business growth in the region.
Widely travelled, Gopalakrishnan’s leadership extends beyond business into community service. A Rotarian since 1999, he has held significant leadership roles, including District Governor and Regional Membership Lead. His Innovative approach and dedication have contributed to impactful community projects, including CSR Initiatives and disaster relief efforts.
As the FIEO Southern Regional Chairman, his assignments include promoting exports from the Southern States, working closely with exporters, State and Central government agencies, and other stakeholders to enhance export competitiveness, helping exporters in preparing for upcoming issues like CBAM, Deforestation regulations, etc. and also on implementation of sustainability-related subjects for gaining better market access.
