Students of EASA College of Engineering and Technology secured fourth place in a recently held national-level inter-collegiate engineering hackathon on the theme “Sustainable Development Goals” for their project titled “Aero Grain.”
The hackathon was held at JCT College of Engineering and Technology, with 345 students from 52 colleges participating in 105 teams.
The winning team comprised Rohith and Surya, second-year B.E. Mechanical Engineering students, and Abu, a second-year B.Tech. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science student. The students were awarded certificates along with a cash prize of Rs. 5,000.
Speaking about their project, the students said, “We developed the project with the objective of enabling precision and safe farming through an integrated approach to improve crop yield. The system is designed to provide crops with the required amount of irrigation, fertilisers and other essential inputs.
“Using OpenCV-based Artificial Intelligence technology, we have developed eight AI agents. These AI agents use cameras mounted on a rover to identify various issues in cultivated agricultural fields, including crop diseases. They can also identify the specific requirements of crops, such as water, fertilisers and other essential inputs.
“In areas where the rover cannot reach, a drone can be deployed to address the identified requirements. All these operations are designed to be carried out automatically.”
The students were appreciated for their achievement by Aadarsh, Correspondent, EASA College of Engineering and Technology, and Robert Kennedy, Principal, along with the faculty members.
