A conference focusing on business collaboration and capacity-building opportunities between India and Germany, particularly the State of Saxony, was held on 13th November 2025 at The Residency Tower Hotel in Coimbatore.

The event was jointly organised by the German Indian Roundtable (GIRT) and Saxony Trade and Invest.

The conference was presided over by Chandrasekar, Head of the German Indian Roundtable, Coimbatore Chapter, and Thomas Horn, CEO, Saxony Trade and Invest.

Ramasamy, Founder and Patron – German Indian Roundtable, Coimbatore Chapter and Chairman of Roots Group of Companies, Coimbatore, delivered the welcome address and emphasised the importance of fostering Indo-German partnerships in the manufacturing and technology sectors.

Dirk Panter, Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy, and Climate of the German State of Saxony, delivered the Guest of Honour address.

In his address, he said that Saxony is a European leader in semiconductors, with one out of every three chips made in Europe produced in Saxony. This, he said, opens up significant opportunities for collaboration between the two regions.

He also shared that Saxony is currently in the process of building a satellite. He noted that Germany is known for its strong vocational training systems and has a high demand for skilled workers. Coimbatore, with its vocational training institutes that resemble those in Germany, offers scope for cooperation in this sector as well. “We want to strengthen our cooperation in vocational training,” he said.

Further he said, Saxony and Tamil Nadu will work together on concrete, actionable projects. He added that he had recently met Minister for Industries T.R.B. Rajaa in Chennai. “He wants projects. So, the next step will be to focus on real projects,” he said.

He added that Germany also requires Information Technology engineers. And he shared that Coimbatore has strong capabilities in textiles and mechanical engineering. Many industries in the region use German machinery, which further supports partnership opportunities.

He pointed out that company-to-company collaborations should be enhanced. Over the last two years, the relationship between Saxony and Coimbatore has strengthened, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Chandrasekar, Corporate Director of Roots Group of Companies, outlined the various initiatives undertaken by the GIRT Coimbatore Branch to promote bilateral business relations and technology exchange between Tamil Nadu and Germany.

Michael Hasper, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Chennai, attended the event as the Chief Guest.

22 delegates from Saxony, Germany, attended an interactive session led by Dirk Panter, and Michael Hasper.

The conference featured detailed discussions on business collaborations, investment opportunities, and representative participation between Coimbatore and Saxony. Participants engaged in an interactive question-and-answer session, exploring prospects for joint ventures, skill development, and innovation partnerships.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Akila Shanmugam, Director, Goethe Zentrum, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, delegates, and industrial participants for their contribution to strengthening Indo-German cooperation.
