Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Department of Horticulture Plantation Crop, Karamadai Block and Kongunadu Arts and Science College jointly organised a one-week awareness programme with hands-on training on Beekeeping with the sponsorship of the National Bee Board recently at ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Vivekanandhapuram, Karamadai Block.

The resource person of the programme was Rajeshkumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, and Diploma in Apiculture, Kongunadu Arts and Science College who enlightened the participants about the fundamentals of Biology, types of honey bees and their importance in agriculture for sustainable livelihood.

This workshop was focused on the practical skills and techniques necessary for successful beekeeping practices. The session was headed by Kumaravadivelu, Senior Scientist and Head of the venue and Gomathi, Assistant Senior Scientist.

The presidential address was given by Gomathi who created insight about the various sustainable practices which will be useful for the betterment of society.

Rajeshkumar enlightens the participants with theoretical, and practical demonstrations and hands-on training in beekeeping practices.

At the programme, 30 women of a self-help group (tribal People) at Karamadai block were trained in Beekeeping and equipped to develop their projects for future betterment.

With this programme, participants had the opportunity to observe hive inspections and beekeeping equipment handling and observed various bees in a colony under the guidance of experienced beekeepers. The event also provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of beekeeping principles, practices, and entrepreneurial opportunities.

The beekeeping workshop fulfilled its aim to encourage sustainable beekeeping practices and promote the conservation of bee populations. Participants expressed enthusiasm and eagerness to apply their newfound knowledge in establishing and managing their beekeeping ventures.
