ALERT, a voluntary non-profit organisation dedicated to making the ‘Right to Life’ a reality in India, organised the 9th edition of the ALERT Being Awards (ABA) on 6 February 2026 at PSG IMSR to honour and recognise Good Samaritans from various walks of life.

At the ceremony, 17 real-life heroes were honoured for helping save or preserve lives across three categories: Individuals, Organisations, and Going Beyond the Call of Duty.

Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman of Kumaraguru Educational Institutions, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and presented the awards.

The event was attended by esteemed members of the Regional Executive Committee of ALERT Coimbatore, including Chandrasekar, Director of Roots; Dr. Bhuvaneswaran, Director of PSG Hospitals; and Saravanan Ranganathan, Managing Director of Sandfits Foundries.

ALERT Being Awards

K P Ramasamy, Chairman of the KPR Group, was conferred the ALERT Eminence Award in recognition of his extraordinary journey of resilience, purpose-driven leadership, visionary entrepreneurship, and championing compassionate capitalism through education.

The ALERT Being Award for Lifetime Achievement was presented to Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi, Founder of the Satyarthi Movement for Global Compassion.

The ALERT Being Organisation ICON Award was presented to UYIR, Coimbatore, for its remarkable efforts towards making the city accident-free.

The ALERT Being Individual ICON Award was presented to Padma Shri Sunitha Krishnan, Indian social activist and Co-Founder of Prajwala, for her tireless work against sex slavery and sexual violence against women and children.

Under the category of Going Beyond the Call of Duty, awards were presented to Major Rohit of the Indian Army, who delivered a baby at a railway station, and to the trio of doctors — Dr. Manoop, Dr. Thomas Peter, and Dhidiya K Thomas — who saved road traffic accident victims by performing a tracheostomy in a public setting.

Under the Organisation category, Platelet Club from Chennai, Jeeva Shanthy Trust and Rotary Club of Coimbatore Cotton City from Coimbatore, and Amazon Seller Services were honoured.

Under the Individual category, 10 real-life heroes who risked their lives to save others were honoured.

The awards were conferred in the presence of Muralidharan, Chairman; Kala Balasundaram, Founder Trustee; Rajesh R Trivedi, Co-Founder and Managing Trustee; and the heads of the organisation.

Speaking at the event, Muralidharan said, “With the Good Samaritan Law in place and more colleges coming forward to install ALERT Golden Army chapters, we aim to generate one crore volunteers equipped to save lives.” He added, “In times of emergency, most people have the heart to help but do not know how to go about it. Our aim is to equip more people with emergency response skills so that no life is lost due to lack of timely attention.”

Kala Balasundaram said, “The 9th edition of the ALERT Being Awards is a tribute to the extraordinary spirit of humanity. These heroes didn’t wait for a title or a moment — they stepped up when it mattered most. This is more than a celebration; it is a movement to make life-saving preparedness a way of life.”

Rajesh R Trivedi said, “It has been an absolute honour to host this edition of the ALERT Being Awards in Coimbatore, a self-made city that exemplifies compassion and giving. The city has been pivotal in ALERT’s mission to make Community First Response a civic responsibility in India.”

The ALERT Being Awards winners were selected by an esteemed jury from nominations received across India.

The distinguished members of the ABA jury included Veena Kumaravel, Founder of Naturals Group of Salons; Shakeel Akhtar, Chief Information Commissioner and DGP (Retd); Nawabzada Mohammed Asif Ali, Heir Apparent and Dewan to the Prince of Arcot; Dr. J S Rajkumar, Chairman and Chief Surgeon, Lifeline Hospitals; Sujith Kumar, Founder of Maatram Foundation; and Anandakrishnan, serial entrepreneur.

The event advisors included Dr. Renuka David, Managing Director, Radiant Medical Services, and Kumaravel, CEO and Co-Founder, Naturals Group of Salons.
