The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Dr. N.G.P. Institute of Technology, Coimbatore, recently inaugurated the T.H.I.N.K. (Technology for Healthcare Innovation using NextGen Knowledge).
It is an Academia–Industry Excellence Centre established in collaboration with Prashan Medical Technologies, Coimbatore, to advance artificial intelligence applications in healthcare.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Dr. Nalla G. Palaniswami, Chairman, Dr. NGP Research and Educational Trust (Dr. NGPRET); Dr. Thavamani D. Palaniswami, Secretary; Dr. Arun N. Palaniswami, Trustee; and Mathura V. Palaniswami, Trustee.
Buvaneswaran, Chief Executive Officer of the Trust, and Natesan, Chief Operating Officer, were present along with Boopathy Sakthivel, Founder and CEO of Prashan Medical Technologies. Prabha, Principal of the institute, and Praveen Chakkravarthy, Head of the Department, also attended the event.
Conceived as a future-ready innovation ecosystem, the centre aims to integrate AI tools, data analytics, and intelligent prototyping into biomedical education and research, enabling students and faculty to develop cutting-edge healthcare solutions.
Strengthening academia–industry collaboration, the department has initiated consultancy projects worth ₹5 lakh in partnership with Prashan Medical Technologies. These projects include the development of an AI-based baby cradle control system, an automatic urine volume measurement system, and a pill crusher device.
The initiative underscores the institution’s growing reputation as a hub for AI-driven biomedical innovation, fostering research excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and entrepreneurial advancement in the evolving healthcare technology landscape.
