“No Mobile Usage While Driving” – this is a simple statement that every teen, adult, bus passengers, pedestrians see at the back of a truck or bus. We read such awareness messages almost every day. But when we take the driver’s seat, be it a car or a bike, we often fail to follow.
Urging the public to take it seriously, UYIR – an NGO working in the field of road safety in Coimbatore, appealed motorists to not use cellphones while driving, through an awareness program at Gandhipuram Signal on Friday.
Held in collaboration with student volunteers from UYIR Clubs in 2 colleges, this road safety awareness event that was executed under the supervision of the Coimbatore City Traffic Police, attempted to sensitize motorists about the dangers of distracted driving and encourage responsible road user behaviour.
60 UYIR Club Volunteers from VLB Janakiyammal College of Arts and Science and Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science for Women reached out about 5,000 road drivers and users. Captain R. Sathish, Mentor, Education Vertical and team members from UYIR made the arrangements.
