Prominent NGO working in the field of Water Conservation and Environment Rejuvenation, Siruthuli successfully transformed Thangal Lake in Sholinganallur which was choked by sewage inflow and endured years of neglect.
Siruthuli collaborated with leading IT major Infosys, TN Water Resources Department and the Greater Chennai Corporation to transform the neglected lake into a vibrant urban ecosystem. What was once a polluted lake is now a living ecosystem, a source of water, biodiversity, and hope for future generations.

The rejuvenated lake was inaugurated recently by Saravanan, MLA, Sholinganallur, and Aftab Rasool, Regional Deputy Commissioner, Chennai, in the presence of the leadership teams from Infosys and Siruthuli.
Spread across 23 acres, the lake has undergone extensive rejuvenation through desilting, wastewater diversion and treatment, ensuring that only freshwater enters the lake. The restoration has increased the lake’s water-holding capacity by nearly 300 million litres, strengthening its role in groundwater recharge and urban water security.
To enhance ecological health, two biodiversity islands were created and planted with Vetiver grass, while floating Vetiver systems have been introduced to naturally improve water quality and support a healthier aquatic ecosystem.
The project also creates a welcoming public space for the community, featuring a 1.5 km walking pathway, walkers’ park, children’s play area, solar lighting, and visitor amenities, allowing people to reconnect with nature in the heart of the city.
