The Arya Vaidya Pharmacy, Coimbatore Limited (AVP) announced that Vaidya M R Vasudevan Namboothiri, a 70 aged person and former director of Ayurveda Medical Education, Kerala has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious Brihatrayee Ratna Award for 2024.
This distinguished honour, established in memory of Aryavaidyan P V Rama Varier, the founder of AVP, recognizes individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the field of Ayurveda.
Brihatrayee Ratna Award, first instituted in 1994, is one of the most prestigious accolades in the Ayurveda community. It acknowledges the profound impact of individuals who have worked tirelessly to preserve, promote, and advance the principles of Ayurveda. Previous recipients include luminaries such as Vaidyaraj Atmaram Waman Dhatar Sastri, Vaidya VJ Thakkar, and Vaidya Panniyampilly Krishna Warrier, among others.
Vaidya M R Vasudevan Namboothiri has completed BAM (Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine) graduate from Kottakkal Ayurveda College with First Class and First Rank in 1978. He had one-year training under Vaidyaratnam E.T.Neelakantan Moos. Later passed MD in Kayachikitsa in 1981 and was selected by KPSC with First Rank.
He also worked as the Principal of Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram for 5 years and retired as Director of Ayurveda Medical Education in 2010 and served as the State Programme Manager, NRHM (National Rural Health Mission) for 2 years.
Government of Kerala awarded him the Good Service Entry in 2009. He was also the Principal of Amritha School of Ayurveda for 7 years. He was the CCIM Member (Central Council of Indian Medicine) in New Delhi for 10 long years. He was also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of CCRAS, New Delhi for 9 years.
The government of India awarded Best Teacher Award in 2016. The government of Kerala was awarded the Best Doctor Award in 2019 and was also a Guide for 62 Postgraduate Thesis works. More than 40 years of teaching and clinical experience. Namboothiri visited 13 countries including the USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, and Russia to propagate Ayurveda.
Vaidya M R Vasudevan Namboothiri has long been regarded as a stalwart in the field of Ayurveda. His career, spanning decades, has been marked by a promise to preserve the ancient science of healing, promote Ayurvedic education, and deliver compassionate healthcare.

Brihatrayee Ratna Award will be conferred upon Vaidya M R Vasudevan Namboothiri at the 10th World Ayurveda Congress, scheduled to take place from December 12 to December 15, 2024, in Dehradun.
This prestigious event, graced by the Prime Minister of India, will bring together experts, practitioners, and enthusiasts from around the globe to celebrate the timeless science of Ayurveda.
Brihatrayee Ratna Award for 2024 is named after the foundational Ayurvedic texts – Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Vagbhata Samhita – which collectively form the bedrock of Ayurvedic knowledge.
