KR Hospital celebrated World Breastfeeding Week with an awareness rally and a special breastfeeding awareness programme recently to create awareness among mothers, pregnant women, patients, and the general public about the importance of breastfeeding.
The programme was attended by Dr. Thilagam Rajesh, Managing Director; Rajesh Kumar, Joint Managing Director; Dr. Samhith Rajesh, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist; Dr. Nethra Sakthivel, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist; and Dr. Samyuktha, Paediatrician, along with doctors, nurses, hospital staff, patients, and their attendants.
The awareness rally witnessed the participation of doctors, nurses, and hospital staff carrying placards highlighting the importance of breastfeeding.
The rally focused on spreading the message that breast milk is the best and most complete source of nutrition for a newborn baby.
During the awareness programme, the doctors explained the importance of initiating breastfeeding soon after childbirth and providing exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months.
They also discussed various topics, including the nutritional benefits of breast milk, immunity and disease protection, proper breastfeeding techniques, correct positioning and attachment, common breastfeeding challenges, and the benefits of breastfeeding for both the mother and the baby.
The programme also featured an interactive awareness session with pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and patients.
Participants were encouraged to openly share their doubts, concerns, and practical difficulties related to breastfeeding, and the doctors provided simple, scientific, and practical guidance to address their queries.
The speakers also highlighted the importance of family support for breastfeeding mothers and encouraged them to follow evidence-based breastfeeding practices while avoiding misconceptions and myths.
The interactive session received a positive response, with participants actively engaging in the discussion and clarifying their doubts with the medical team.
KR Hospital emphasised that breastfeeding is essential not only for the healthy growth and development of the child but also for protecting and promoting the health of the mother.
The programme concluded with the message: “Breastfeeding – Giving Every Child a Healthy Beginning and a Brighter Future.”
