Caterpillar India has announced the winners of Tech Challenge 2026, its flagship engineering innovation programme that brings together some of the country’s brightest engineering students to solve real-world industry challenges using advanced technologies.
Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines, and diesel-electric locomotives.
The multi-month competition concluded with on-site grand finales held at Caterpillar facilities in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Bengaluru, where shortlisted teams showcased working prototypes developed under the guidance of Caterpillar engineers.
Across eight categories, the winners were announced as follows:
Category 1: Coimbatore Institute of Technology won both the winner and runner-up positions, while SSN College of Engineering received a special mention.
Category 2: IIT Madras emerged as the winner, SASTRA University secured the runner-up position, and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham received a special mention.
Category 3: PSG Institute of Technology secured both the winner and runner-up positions, while the College of Engineering, Pune, received a special mention.
Category 4: IIT Madras emerged as the winner, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was the runner-up, and Coimbatore Institute of Technology received a special mention.
Category 5: PES University, Bengaluru, won the category, PSG College of Technology secured the runner-up position, and SSN College of Engineering received a special mention.
Category 6: Bannari Amman Institute of Technology emerged as the winner, Coimbatore Institute of Technology secured the runner-up position, and Saveetha Engineering College received a special mention.
Category 7: SSN College of Engineering won the category, IIT Madras was the runner-up, and Bannari Amman Institute of Technology received a special mention.
Category 8: IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, emerged as the winner, PSG College of Technology secured the runner-up position, and the College of Engineering, Pune, received a special mention.
The Tech Challenge builds on the strong foundation of the 2025 edition, which attracted more than 13,000 students from over 600 engineering colleges across India. The previous edition demonstrated how applied innovation in artificial intelligence, computer vision and intelligent systems can transform classroom learning into industry-ready solutions.
With Tech Challenge 2026, Caterpillar further raised the bar by increasing technical rigour and focusing on end-to-end execution, from concept development to functional prototypes. Only the top teams from each domain advanced through multiple evaluation stages, underscoring the programme’s highly competitive nature.
The Caterpillar Tech Challenge reflects the company’s strategic focus on advancing technology leadership. Student teams worked on challenges aligned with Caterpillar’s core technology priorities, including AI-enabled systems, digital engineering, electronics, software and automation, mirroring how innovation is applied across the company’s global operations.
