PSG College of Technology organised a graduation ceremony for the Electrical and Allied Engineering programmes Yesterday. Somanath, former Chairman of ISRO, graced the event as the chief guest and presented the degree certificates to 560 undergraduate and postgraduate.
Natarajan, Head (i/c), Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), delivered the welcome address.
Thyla, Principal of the college, delivered the special address and administered the pledge to the graduates. She said Electrical engineers are building the intelligent energy system that powers a sustainable society.

The Chief Guest conferred degrees upon graduates from the Departments of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Robotics and Automation Engineering, Fashion Technology, and Textile Technology. The college also honoured the toppers of each department with Gold Medals for their outstanding academic performance.

“When I joined ISRO, my boss gave me five assignments. I noted them down, but I had no idea how to solve those problems. Then I realised that what I had learned in engineering college was of little use in addressing those challenges. I discussed and interacted with many people to solve those problems, and in the process, I learned far more than what I had studied in engineering,” stated Somanath while addressing the graduates.
“You will face similar challenges, and I want to warn you about that.” “Engineers are destined to be mathematicians. You have to convert problems into mathematical models and bring solutions to them.”
He also shared with the students that success comes not only from achieving results but also from learning through failures under the guidance of leaders and mentors.
“Beyond technology, beyond mastering your subjects, you also have to read people,” he stated. “You need to make an effort to understand what is happening behind the scenes and bring in new knowledge from outside because ideas can come from anywhere. This is what leaders in organisations do.” “By sharing your skills, you grow, and others grow as well.”
“Jobs alone will not make you rich, I can guarantee you. Only by putting effort into building entrepreneurship and enterprises you can create wealth. The need of the hour is to start a startup.”
