KMCH College of Physiotherapy recently observed International Anti-Drug Day 2026 with a comprehensive awareness programme themed “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention and Break the Cycle.”
The programme aimed to raise awareness among students about the harmful effects of substance abuse and the importance of preventive measures in building a healthy society.
The event was coordinated by the class and subject coordinators and was inaugurated by Karthick Babu, Principal of the college.
Distinguished resource persons included Miadit Mano, Inspector of Police, Prohibition Enforcement Wing, Coimbatore City, and a representative from Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Coimbatore Chapter. They addressed students on the social, psychological, and legal consequences of substance abuse and emphasised the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices.
A variety of engaging onstage and off-stage activities were conducted, including an awareness board exhibition, debate competition, student-created awareness reels, skit, mime show, and an anti-drug pledge. Students actively participated in the events, demonstrating their commitment to promoting a drug-free society. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the various competitions.
In his address, the Inspector of Police highlighted the legal implications of drug-related offences and explained the mechanisms available for reporting drug abuse and trafficking.
The representative from Alcoholics Anonymous shared inspiring real-life experiences and provided information on recovery and support services available to individuals affected by substance abuse.
The programme significantly enhanced students’ understanding of substance abuse prevention, its legal consequences, and the support systems available for recovery. Through active participation in the awareness activities, students developed critical thinking abilities, peer-learning skills, and positive health attitudes.
The event also strengthened collaboration between the institution, law enforcement authorities, and recovery support organisations.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge by students to contribute towards creating a healthy, drug-free society and to serve as ambassadors of prevention within their communities.
