Amrita Vidyalayam in Kalapatti and Nallampalayam recently observed World Environment Day through a Bee-Flora Planting Drive organised by AYUDH (Awaken Youth Unite for Dharma), the youth movement guided by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma).
In Kalapatti, the programme was inaugurated by Radhika, Wellness Consultant- Aanandam Arokiyam, in the presence of Saroja Rajalingam, Principal. In Nallampalayam, the programme was inaugurated by Thirukumaran, Agriculturist, Danshikaa Organics, in the presence of Mangayarkarasi, Principal.
Teachers, AYUDH coordinators and students actively participated in the events.
Speaking on the occasion, the guests highlighted the importance of biodiversity conservation and environmental stewardship, noting that meaningful engagement with nature helps students develop a deeper sense of responsibility towards the environment.
As part of the initiative, 15 flowering saplings were planted at the Kalapatti campus to support bees and other pollinators and create a greener, pollinator-friendly environment. The activity was carried out over an area of approximately 5 square metres and saw the participation of 178 students and volunteers.
At Nallampalayam, 10 native tree saplings were identified as part of the initiative, including Sorgam, Magizham (Spanish Cherry), Athi (Fig), Mara Konrai, Pungan, Evergreen and Indian Coral Tree species.
The programme engaged nearly 950 students, creating awareness about biodiversity conservation, native plant species and sustainable environmental practices.
Together, the two campuses witnessed the participation of more than 1,100 students and volunteers, reflecting a strong commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainability.
The Bee-Flora initiative aims to help students understand the vital role played by bees and other pollinators in maintaining ecological balance and food security, while encouraging environmentally responsible practices and active participation in protecting nature.
