Summer rains have been hitting Coimbatore city for more than a couple of days now, and motorists travelling to key commercial areas like Cross Cut Road find it hard to move through them because of multiple reasons.

Though Cross Cut is a one-way road, motorists who enter it, especially in the evening, first have to tackle a dozen cars and other vehicles that comfortably stay still or parked outside eateries and other shops. Most of these vehicles do not move unless the cops warn them.

Next come the lengthy queue of pedestrians who either do not prefer using the pathway developed exclusively for them or are forced to pick the roadside, as this sidewalk has become home to numerous food stalls and street vendors selling clothing, toys and handbags attract lot of customers.

Adding to the trouble, shoppers who enter the area via bikes and scooters operate it at very low speed, leisurely taking all the time they need to search for space to park their vehicle, affecting the movement of motorists who actually use the road to reach other destinations.

Rainfall makes it even more chaotic. Motorists avoid the sides where the puddles and potholes are located but get halted intermittently as pedestrians too do the same. Some even cross the road without seeing.  To escape getting completely wet in rain, everyone move rapidly, and rain hides the risks roads with poor parking options and careless pedestrians pose.

Strict monitoring of vehicles that violate parking norms is needed. Quick setting up of the Multi-level car parking facility is important.
