25% of the Thaneerpandhal Rail Overbridge (ROB) project has been completed, according to sources.

The project is being handled by the State Highways Department , and it is considered an important infrastructure by residents and commuters from Hopes College Rd., Vilankurichi, Gandhimanagar and other adjacent areas close to Sathy Road and Peelamedu besides by several hundreds of IT employees at the TIDEL Park region.

Southern Railways built the portion above the train track and finished the same in 2018. However due to land acquisition related issues and legal battles, the project got stalled in 2018 and only resumed in July 2025.

So far 13 out of the 18 pillars have been erected. Underground water connections need to be shifted for 300 meters to facilitate the execution of project and works are underway for that.  1,700 + sq.m land need to be acquired . Highway department officials said the works have been intensified while the public cry that there has been a significant slowdown in the project.

As December 2026 is the deadline to complete the project, the department still has 8 months to 550 meter ROB.
