From today (April 1, 2026), toll plazas on National Highways will shift to a fully digital, cashless payment system. Travellers have to pay tolls using FASTag or QR-based UPI methods only.

Vehicles without a valid FASTag, or with insufficient balance, can still pay via UPI at the toll plaza. But these payments will cost 1.25 times the normal toll fee. Cash payments will be discouraged and, if used, will be charged at double the normal toll rate.

The move aims to streamline traffic flow, reduce congestion at toll plazas, and promote digital transactions across the highway network.
