Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, marked World Cleanup Day 2025 with a large-scale cleanliness drive as part of the 72nd Amritavarsham celebrations on 20th September 2025.
The initiative aligned with UNESCO’s sustainability goals and the Amalabharatham Campaign—a nationwide movement launched by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi in 2010 to promote environmental responsibility, public hygiene, and civic awareness.
The campaign this year spanned seven key locations—Arasampalayam, Myleripalayam, Solavampalayam, Ettimadai, K.G. Chavadi, P.G. Pudur, and the university campus.
Building on Amrita’s longstanding efforts in cleanup drives, waste segregation, and afforestation, the event mobilised nearly 3,000 students and 300 staff to clean public spaces, engage local communities, and spread awareness on responsible waste management.
The program at Ettimadai was inaugurated with a prayer and welcome address by Mahadevan, Associate Dean, Student Affairs, followed by Nikhileshwaramrita Chaitanya, who highlighted the importance of civic responsibility.
Dignitaries present included Shanmugham, Ex-MLA, Tamil Nadu; Pazhaniswami, Ex-MLA, Varadarajan, ADMK Secretary; Thirumurthi, Ex-Chairman, Perur; Balu, PCC Member; Vimalnath, Shivakumar, Kittusami, Kaliyappan, Gunasekharan, and Veluchami, who participated across different locations.
