Cheshire Homes Coimbatore, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities, has successfully trained and placed its first batch of visually impaired students in employment.

This program, launched in collaboration with Help The Blind Foundation.

Eight visually impaired individuals from across Tamil Nadu completed an intensive 45-day residential training program in basic computer skills. PSG & Sons’ Charities has offered employment to all eight trainees.

To mark this achievement, a graduation ceremony was held on 15th May 2025 at Cheshire Homes. L. Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee of PSG & Sons’ Charities, and Jayaram, Vice President of Global Sales – Textile and Filament at Lenzing Fibers India, handed over the placement orders to the trainees.

In addition to this, diploma certificates were awarded to individuals who successfully completed training in bakery, basic tailoring, and advanced tailoring. A total of 8 individuals were trained in bakery, 15 in basic tailoring, and 10 in advanced tailoring.

This training program was facilitated through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contribution of Lenzing Fibers India.

The esteemed dignitaries present at the graduation ceremony included Pon Meenakshi from the Help The Blind Foundation, along with the heads of Cheshire Homes Coimbatore.

“Our vision is to break down barriers to employment for people with disabilities by providing accessible, high-quality training and direct job placement,” said a spokesperson for Cheshire Homes Coimbatore. “The success of our first batch demonstrates that with the right support, visually impaired individuals can excel in the workplace and lead independent, fulfilling lives.”

Cheshire Home continues to serve individuals with disabilities through various programs, including a residential facility for individuals with mental illness, currently providing care and support to 40 residents.

A free residential physiotherapy program for individuals with paraplegia and spinal cord injuries, offering rehabilitation and therapy to improve mobility and quality of life.
