The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and the Women Welfare & Empowerment Committee, in association with the Department of Commerce, Corporate Secretaryship, and Accounting & Finance of Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, organised a “Women’s Safety Awareness Programme” on 14th October 2025.
The programme aimed to raise awareness among 553 girl students about women’s safety, empowerment, and the legal protections available in society.
The session began with a welcome address by Sasikala, head and chairperson of the Internal Complaints Committee, who emphasised the importance of self-confidence, personal safety, and awareness of rights in today’s social context.
Ponnusamy, principal of the college, delivered the presidential address, highlighting the crucial role of educational institutions in promoting gender equality and ensuring a safe learning environment for women.
He commended the efforts of the committees and departments for organising such a timely and meaningful initiative.
The event was honoured by the presence of distinguished officials from the Coimbatore City Police.
Suriyamoorthy, additional deputy commissioner of police (crime against women and children), Coimbatore City, shared insights on various measures and initiatives undertaken by the police department to curb crimes against women and children.
Rani, inspector of police, All Women Police Station, stressed the importance of vigilance, awareness, and timely reporting of any form of harassment.
Sreelekha (Police Akka) and SI Thiruvasagam (Police Bro) engaged with the students in an interactive session, encouraging them to speak up against injustice and to seek help without hesitation.
