This year’s winter is much colder compared to previous years, and many people are suffering from cold, cough, throat infections, and viral fever.

One major reason is the food we eat. The type of food consumed in winter can affect immunity, digestion, and respiratory health, and some foods may increase mucus production.

In this article, we take a look at what to eat and what to avoid during the winter season.

Dr. Manjusha Agarwal, an internal medicine physician, shared with Daily Hunt that caution in food choices during winter is essential, as cold weather can impact digestion and immunity.

Foods to Avoid

Caffeine and Alcohol

Excessive intake of caffeine, such as strong tea or coffee, may cause dehydration and disturb sleep. Alcohol lowers immunity and body temperature and is best avoided during winter.

Fruits

Certain fruits, such as bananas, grapes, and watermelon, should be consumed in moderation, especially at night, as they may increase mucus formation.

Dairy Products

Cold dairy products like ice cream, chilled milk, and excess curd can aggravate throat irritation and respiratory issues.

What to eat?

Experts recommend choosing warm, freshly cooked foods, seasonal fruits, and consuming dairy in warm or cooked forms to maintain good health during the colder months.
