To commemorate World First Aid Day, ALERT (Amenity Lifeline Emergency Response Team), in collaboration with VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science, Kovaipudur, achieved a significant milestone by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ALERT Golden Army on 13th September 2025.

The event was marked by two major initiatives: the launch of the ALERT Golden Army Club at the college and the commencement of a large-scale Personal Empowerment in Emergency Response (PEER Basic Awareness) program.

Following the MoU exchange, the ALERT Golden Army Club was formally inaugurated on campus.

The MoU signing and inaugural ceremony were graced by distinguished dignitaries including Jaishree Suryakumar, CEO & Secretary; Brindha, Director of Academics and Research; Kalaivani, Principal; Kala Balasundaram, Founder Trustee of ALERT; and Rajesh Trivedi, Co-Founder and Managing Trustee.

In its first phase, the initiative benefited over 1,500 students, with plans to extend training to the entire student body in the coming weeks.

The program aims to create a generation of Community First Responders, also known as Good Samaritans, equipped with essential knowledge and skills to act promptly during medical emergencies in public spaces.

The training sessions covered critical areas such as:

  • Understanding medical emergencies and the role of a first responder
  • The Good Samaritan Law
  • Vitals of the human body
  • Key do’s and don’ts in emergency situations
  • Types of bleeding and their management
  • Handling fractures and choking
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Recovery position and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • 2 13 scaled

Dignitaries emphasised the importance of youth-led community initiatives in fostering a safer, more responsive society. The collaboration between ALERT and the college is expected to set a benchmark for other educational institutions across Coimbatore and beyond.

More than just imparting life-saving skills, the program empowers students to serve as role models and real-life heroes during emergencies.

This initiative aligns with ALERT’s long-term vision of “Train One in Every Family in Emergency Care”, a mission endorsed by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in 2007.

Through such efforts, ALERT continues its journey toward building a nation of first responders and reducing preventable deaths during emergencies.
