Tamil Nadu’s largest para-throwball held in Coimbatore with 12 states and 350 athletes participating
The Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown, in association with the Tamil Nadu Para Throwball Association and with the support of the Para Throwball Federation of India, Asian Para Throwball Federation, and World Para Throwball Federation, concluded the 4th National Para Throwball Championship for Men and Women with a Valedictory Ceremony held on August 31, 2025, at Ruby Matric Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore.
Each year’s championship is conducted in memory of the Late Rtn. Krishnananda, as a Memorial Trophy of Honour, and carries the theme: “Ability Beyond Disability.”

This year’s tournament spanned three days and saw participation from over 350 athletes representing 12 Indian states, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Pondicherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh—making it one of the largest para-throwball events ever hosted in Tamil Nadu.
Winning teams were felicitated during the valedictory ceremony with trophies, medals, and citations.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Rtn. MD Godwin Maria Visuvasam, Project Chairman & District Membership Chair (RI District 3206), remarked, “Every athlete who stepped on the court is already a champion. Beyond medals and trophies, this championship has given us a bigger victory—changing perceptions, creating acceptance, and proving that talent knows no disability.”
Rtn. PDG Rajasekhar, District Rotary Foundation Chair, RI District 3206, who served as the Chief Guest, congratulated the winners and commended Rotary.
The event was also graced by several distinguished Rotarians, including Rtn. MD Chugh, District Director, RI District 3206; Rtn. MPHF Raja Mahendran, Assistant Governor; Rtn. MPHF Premkumar, Group Governor’s Representative (GGR); Rtn. CRV Sreenath, President of the Club, and Rtn. Vikram Kumar, Secretary Para Throwball, which started in India with only a few states participating, has now expanded to over 20 Indian states and 21 countries globally. Indian para-athletes have excelled on the international stage, winning medals at the Thailand International Para Throwball Championship and the Asian Para Throwball Series.

The sport has become a powerful platform for dignity, inclusion, and empowerment, with many players securing scholarships, employment, and social recognition.
